“To identify, organize, preserve, grow and promote the RCCC’s history & collection, situating it within the neighborhood of Riverdale and the city of Toronto, as well as in the hearts of club members and curling enthusiasts everywhere.”

ABOUT US:

We are the Royal Canadian History Project, a growing number of Royal Canadian Curling Club members with an interest in our club’s history. The RCCC dates back to the 1890s, and has deep roots in the Riverdale neighborhood of Toronto. Through the RCCC’s vast collection of trophies, plaques, newsclippings, photographs, and artifacts, we are discovering the organization’s impact on sporting life, civic life, and social life in Toronto over the past 120 years – one item at a time.

Current contributors include: Barry Slater, Brian McAndrew, Dave Field, Leslie O’Reilly, Liam Hughes, Shannon Linde, Steve Yano and Tony Gilroy.

Riverside History Walk

The 4th Annual Riverside WALKfest’s history walk, Inside and Out Back: Then and Now of Riverside, wrapped at the Royal Canadian Curling Club, where dozens of walkers were introduced to the club and learned about its rich history. The event was so successful it inspired some press!

CCM History Event

We were thrilled to host this Riverdale Historical Society event on our 2nd floor lounge. Author John A. McKenty discussed his recently published book entitled Canada Cycle & Motor: The CCM Story.

What better venue to celebrate the history of CCM than at one of Canada’s oldest bicycle clubs? It was a successful event that merged local historians, history enthusiasts, and club members together. Thanks to the Riverdale Historical Society and John A. McKenty for making the event possible.

Riverside District Bonspiel

In the tradition of the March Invitational we partnered with the Riverdale BIA, inviting local business owners and employees to come on down for a day of curling and camaraderie. The spiel began with a lesson from our club experts, and was followed by two 4-end games. It was a wonderful way to introduce the local community to curling, and welcome them into the club. Thanks to all who participated – we hope to make it an annual tradition!

RESEARCH
• Barry Slater is constantly researching RCCC history, making connections to the Riverdale neighborhood and Toronto as a whole. He is slowly uncovering the Royals’ intricate past, through carefully scanning the club’s historical documents. Meanwhile, his team of interested historians are working to fill gaps from outside media sources.

CALLING ALL PAST PRESIDENTS!
• We are reaching out to past presidents to learn more about the club’s history. Interviews will begin in January 2013. If you know of a past president who would like to share their story, please get in touch!

COLLECTIONS STORAGE
• The storage room renovations are complete! Thank you to the generous club members who contributed time and labour towards the cause of collections care.
